In partnership
with the community, Rebuilding Together North West Nevada rehabilitates the homes of low income homeowners so that they may
live in warmth, safety and independence and repairs nonprofit facilities so they are better able to serve our community.
Our affiliate of
Rebuilding Together was established in 2007 with the purpose to renovate homes and community facilities. The
majority of the low-income homeowners we serve are elderly or disabled individuals or residents who are physically and financially
unable to maintain safe and warm living conditions for themselves and their families.
Throughout the year during our Rebuilding Days, we will gather donated materials and rally hundreds
of volunteers to help repair and rehabilitate homes and nonprofit facilities. Our program provides both major and minor
repairs and renovations that result in life-changing improvements for the homeowners and organizations served.
Throughout the year, our Neighbor to Neighbor program provides small volunteer teams to perform
repairs that improve accessibility and mobility within the home. It
is amazing what can be accomplished through the generous help provided by Rebuilding Together Northern Nevada sponsors, donors,
and volunteers. |
Three Major Initiatives:
Through three major initiatives, volunteers of all races, religions, and from all walks of life work side by side
to undertake carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, roofing, and other home improvement tasks: | Rebuilding Days Many skilled and
general volunteers will spend approximately three to four weekends in March and April working alongside the homeowners
and their families to make essential home repairs, focusing on "warm, safe and dry" issues. By May, many volunteers
will complete their projects and prepare to celebrate!
| Urgent
Repairs In addition to the Rebuilding Days, volunteers will complete a number
of special projects throughout the year. They will address urgent issues such as leaky roofs, unsanitary plumbing conditions,
security problems, and homes without heat or hot water, which cannot wait until the Rebuilding Days.
| Home Modifications
Home modifications for elderly adults and people with disabilities are priorities in order to help adapt living
spaces so homeowners can "age in place" and/or remain as mobile and independent as possible. To make homes
safer and more accessible, volunteers focus on installing grab bars, railings, levered doorknobs, and wheelchair ramps. Worn
stairs and floors are repaired. Subtle hazard such as a misplaced extension cord or throw rug are identified and
eliminated.
